The Buildings History

One of the city's oldest skyscrapers, this 1906 office tower was commissioned by a woman, Caroline Jones Machesney, who was the daughter of a successful banker. Many offices, including this gallery space, were leased by brokerage firms, since the city stock exchange was next door. Machesney sold her skyscraper in 1913 to Michael Benedum and Joseph Trees, who renamed it after their oil company. The exterior facade and main lobby have been thoroughly restored by the present owners, a condominium association.
